Job Development Course

Effective Job Developers create and maintain strong employer relationships, can work effectively with diverse populations, understand the differences between urban and rural job development strategies and are able to combine both client and employer-focused approaches to their work. This course covers all aspects of the role of a Job Developer, from locating potential employers to client follow-up and retention after employment has been obtained. It is designed to assist both new and experienced Job Developers to be more effective in this increasingly important role.

This course will cover:

  • the skills, knowledge and personal qualities of successful job developers
  • primary acts and regulations that govern the workplace
  • strategies for working with diverse populations, resistant, and unmotivated clients
  • how strategies differ between rural and urban job development
  • different approaches to job development, including client and employer centered strategies
  • building and maintaining strong employer relationships
  • the use of contact management software
  • effective use of social media
  • prospecting strategies to locate and market to employers most likely to hire
  • preparing effective training plans
  • retention risks and strategies
  • and more

This college credit course is delivered in a hybrid format, with two classroom days and an online component. Participants of this course will be registered with Conestoga College and may apply for additional courses leading to the Job Development Professional Certificate.

Includes:

  • classroom and online course facilitated by Conestoga faculty
  • workbook and text book
  • morning and afternoon refreshments
  • college credit if successfully complete


Classroom Hours:

9:00a.m. – 4:00p.m Total Hours and Credits: 45 hours and 3 credits if classroom and online successfully completed
